Our Health and Safety Risk Management for Supervisors & Managers course provides information and knowledge needed to manage health and safety within the workplace. Whether your a supervisor or manager who works in construction, engineering, manufacturing or retail etc., the content is designed to equip you with the understanding of multiple health and safety concepts and practical requirements.

Who should attend
Considering the course is designed for workers with supervisory and managerial experience, it’s focussed nature and the specific subjects covered makes the course an excellent fit for those have already completed an IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate. However, as attendees are given access to the Learning Zone one month ahead of the course, and for 3 months in total, the course is equally suited to those who have never completed a management level health and safety course.

Course Objectives and structure
Objectives
Understand the technical requirements and practical application of ISO45001 Occupational health and safety management system through the structure and principles of ISO31000:2018 Risk management - Guidelines
Enhance your ability to identify, assess, and manage health and safety hazards and risks
Learn to set SMART health and safety objectives and how to develop a health and safety plan for the company or project
Understand the principles of and differences between leadership and management
Provide you the knowledge and tools to conduct health and safety audits and health and safety investigations
Structure
The course is over three days, comprising one day of self-directed learning and two days in a virtual classroom with interactive sessions.
Day 1: Self-Study in the Course Learning Zone(s) 1 Day approximately: It is important that work is completed and progress will be verified on the platform
Introduction to H&S risk management principles
Implementing a health and safety policy
Perception (a closer look at us | HSG48 Reducing Error and Influencing Behaviour | Performance Influencing Factors
Awareness of main health and safety legislation, the sentencing guidelines, and an insight into a health and safety legal register
Emergency preparedness and response (from the First Aid Needs Assessment to scenario testing and PXR - Post Exercise Reports)
Understanding the law surrounding construction projects (CDM2015)
Managing contractors (supplier verification, reviewing RAMS, monitoring)
Pre-Course Work to be submitted: (If not completed before the course, this must be completed before 3 weeks after the course in order to pass)
Company-specific hazard identification checklist completed and uploaded for review
First Aid Needs Assessment completed and uploaded for review
Part completed PPE and Work Equipment Policy to be completed and uploaded for review
Day 2: Virtual Classroom (Tutor led by Andrew Protheroe) 0900hrs - 1700hrs
Case studies: HSE prosecutions.
Hazard identification and risk assessment.
Walk through and comparison of the ISO45001, and ISO31000 frameworks.
Leadership characteristics and management activities in health and safety.
Focus on work equipment (PUWER).
Health surveillance.
Day 3: Virtual Classroom (Tutor led by Andrew Protheroe) 0900hrs - 1700hrs
Incident investigation processes: reporting, analysing, and action planning.
Planning and conducting first and second party health and safety audits.
Interactive Q&A and scenario-based exercises.
Assessment
Important: Passing this course is not a tick box exercise
To best ensure comprehensive understanding and practical application, participants must complete all of the following assessments to pass the course:
Pre-Course Activities:
(1) Multiple-choice Questions during the e-Learning modules (100% pass rate required)
(2) Complete the Fit for Purpose CDM2015 Course
(3) Complete the Fit for Purpose Implementing a H&S Policy Course
(4) Undertake a company-specific hazard identification checklist and uploaded for review
(5) Undertake a First Aid Needs Assessment and uploaded for review
(6) Complete a part completed PPE and Work Equipment Policy and uploaded for review
Virtual or Face to Face element (2 day’s): (1) On-going Q&A from the Tutor during the two day delivery
End of Virtual or Face to Face Assessment: 45-question multiple choice assessment
Post-Course Project Work (completed within 3 weeks):
(1) Submit your risk assessment project for marking
(2) Write a set of SMART health and safety objectives against the ISO45001:2018 framework for your department, company or project
